Bruxism (TMJ)

Bruxism is a condition in which a person grinds or clenches their teeth uncontrollably, especially while sleeping. In many cases, bruxism occurs without the person being aware of it, and can sometimes occur during the day. This condition can cause damage to teeth, jaw pain, facial muscle problems, headaches, and even worsen problems such as temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ).

Symptoms of bruxism:

Causes of bruxism:

Mental stress and anxiety

Emotional stress or anxiety is one of the most common causes of bruxism, especially when it occurs at night.

Deformity or asymmetry in the teeth

Teeth that are not properly aligned or do not fit together can lead to bruxism.

Very tired

Lack of sleep or poor quality sleep may worsen bruxism.

Physiological problem

Sometimes it is a malfunction of the jaw joints.

How does Botox help treat bruxism?

Botox works by injecting an active ingredient directly into the jaw muscles behind the teeth. The ingredient causes the muscles to relax, which reduces their unnecessary action and helps relieve the symptoms of bruxism.

The risks and side effects of Botox for bruxism:

Asymmetrical result and limited smile (if appropriate treatment is not performed on the correct muscles).
Difficulty chewing hard foods (this is a rare but possible condition).
Mild pain or bleeding at the injection site.

Teeth whitening

Home teeth whitening with trays is a common and convenient method of whitening teeth independently at home. It is a process that uses a whitening agent (usually a gel), which is placed inside custom trays that are made for the patient. The method is performed under the supervision of a dentist to ensure that the result is effective and safe.

Benefits of home teeth whitening with trays:

Treatment process:

1

Step 1: Contact a dentist

Before any whitening treatment, you should consult a dentist to make sure your teeth are healthy, free of cavities or gum disease. The dentist will examine the condition of your teeth and can recommend whether whitening is possible or not.
2

Step 2: Create custom splates

The doctor will take measurements of your teeth and make custom aligners based on the dimensions of your mouth. These aligners are important to prevent the white material from damaging your gums or coming off.
3

Step 3: The material for whitening

The whitening agent is usually a gel containing carbon dioxide (carbamide peroxide) or hydrogen peroxide . This substance is left in contact with the teeth for a certain period of time, causing a chemical process that lightens the teeth. Typically, the doctor will provide a low-concentration whitening gel (to prevent excessive sensitivity), and may also recommend a treatment lasting several days or weeks.
4

Step 4: Applying the material

After receiving the custom aligners, the patient will place the gel inside the aligners and wear them on the teeth for a certain amount of time (usually between 4 and 8 hours a day). This process should be done for several days or weeks, depending on the doctor's recommendation, until the desired result is achieved.
5

Step 5: Follow-up

The dentist will ask you to come in for a follow-up after a few days to make sure the result looks good and there are no side effects such as tooth or gum sensitivity. In cases of sensitivity or problems, the doctor can adjust the gel or the time of use.
